The Medifast Diet Review

Article by Mike Hogan

The Medifast diet is a lower-carb diet plan that involves eating 5 pre-packaged Medifast meals throughout the day along with one “lean and green” meal. The Medifast meals consist of shakes, puddings, bars, oatmeals, soups, and drinks. The “lean and green” meal consists of a serving of protein and vegetables. Those following the plan can expect to lose 2-5 pounds a week.

The Medifast diet offers a wide variety of foods to the potential dieter. Sample breakfast food choices include Apple Cinnamon, Blueberry, Maple and Brown Sugar, and Peach oatmeals along with scrambled eggs. Sample bars include Caramel Nut, Chocolate, Chocolate Mint, Oatmeal Raisin, and Peanut Butter. Sample soups include Chicken & Rice, Chicken Noodle, Cream of Broccoli, Cream of Chicken, and Cream of Tomato among others. For dessert there are several Medifast diet puddings available including banana, chocolate, and vanilla puddings.

There are also several Medifast diet shakes that those following the plan can drink in-between their other Medifast meals. Shake varieties include Banana Creme, Dutch Chocolate, French Vanilla, Orange Creme, Strawberry Creme, and Swiss Mocha.

The “lean and green” meal is eaten once a day and allows the dieter to eat a traditional meal while adhering to the guidelines of the Medifast diet. Sample “lean and green” choices would include 5-7 ounces of lean meat along with 3 servings of vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, or lettuce to name a few. Vegetarian choices such as veggie burgers are also allowed.

A typical Medifast dieter would choose any five Medifast meals each day and eat one of them every 2 to 3 hours. Then at the time of their choosing they would eat their “lean and green” meal. The wide variety of food choices available, the opportunity to eat a daily “lean and green” meal, and the frequency of meals make the Medifast diet a popular choice among those who are trying to lose weight and become healthier.
